The dangers of buying online

Health products bought online. How reliable are they?

Shopping online has steadily gained popularity over the years, and HSA has been observing a steady rise in the number of parcels containing health products being shipped onto local shores. In a study conducted by HSA in 2008, it was discovered that nearly two-thirds of online purchases of health products were counterfeit, adulterated or substandard. Health supplements made up the majority of these purchases, with prescription medicines being a close second.

As a consumer, cheap bargains and enticing offers that you find online are hard to resist. But illegal online sellers do not disclose much information about their product, and that lack of information might just KILL YOU!

Buyers BEWARE

Consumers are therefore advised not to risk their health for the sake of convenience, lower prices or greater privacy by purchasing health products from dubious or unfamiliar sources such as random Internet websites, or persons postings offers on auction sites, discussion forums and blogs.

Products purchased from these sources pose very high risks of being counterfeit or adulterated with undeclared potent substances that may cause serious harm to consumers. The dangers are especially high if the substances are prescription drugs which should only be taken under close medical supervision.
